I’ll discuss probable GI products from Gazipur today. Gazipur is the nearest district of Dhaka. It has a significant role in Bangladesh’s gross domestic product (GDP). Although it has gradually become an industrial and cultural district, several products deserve GI recognition from the district. Gazipur became a wealthy district with an industrialist economy and an agricultural economy. The Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) and Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) are also in Gazipur.

1. Jackfruit of Gazipur

Jackfruit is a cash crop of Gazipur. This jackfruit contributes significantly to meeting the demands of different parts of the country by meeting local demands. Gazipur’s jackfruit goes to different parts of the country through traders every year. This jackfruit is exported to other countries of the world.

According to various media reports, the largest jackfruit market in the country is located in this Gazipur district. Almost all families in some upazilas of Gazipur are involved in jackfruit in one way or another. 200-250 years old jackfruit trees are also found in this district. So, the jackfruit of Gazipur can get GI recognition. This will undoubtedly create opportunities to increase employment and investment in the future. It is major probable GI products of Gazipur.

2. Guava of Gazipur

Guava is a native fruit of Bangladesh. Though produced in almost all villages of the country, some guavas differ in taste due to variety, soil, weather and climate. 3. Mulberry of Gazipur

Mulberry for muslin weaving was collected from Kapasia in Gazipur since ancient times. Still, commercially, mulberries are harvested from Capasia and fed to race insects to obtain race yarn. From this, the world-famous muslin is made.
