Potential GI Products of Rajbari

Rajbari, often called “Padmakannya” (Daughter of Padma), is a central district in Bangladesh. While its economy is primarily agricultural, industrial factories have recently begun to emerge. Several products from Rajbari district are worthy of GI recognition. So today, I’m writing about Rajbari’s potential GI products.

Malaikari

The Rajbari district branding book features a picture of ‘Malaikari’. Its shape and production method appear different from Malaikari found in other regions of the country. It’s hoped that its taste will also be distinct. If this Malaikari possesses a unique taste and production technique, along with a history of 50 years or more, then there’s an opportunity to pursue GI recognition for it.

Khir Chomchom

While Chomchom is produced in various parts of the country, Rajbari’s Khir Chomchom has a distinct production method, taste, and aroma. The sweetness of this Chomchom is less than other Chomchoms. It’s lightly juicy and coated with khir (condensed milk).

Ramdia’s Tiler Motka

The Ramdia’s Tiler Motka, over a hundred years old, still maintains its recognition. Ramdia’s Tiler Motka is made from sugar using a special method and then sold on trains. Entire families are involved in making this Motka. Ramdia’s Tiler Motka is a favorite among everyone, young and old. If this special product receives GI recognition, it could turn the fortunes of many producers and create demand both domestically and internationally.
