The ancient Bikrampur is now known as Munshiganj. It gained district status in 1984. Munshiganj was once the capital of several kingdoms, making it a politically significant region. With the rise of industries, Munshiganj has become an advanced district economically. However, Munshiganj currently has no GI products. So, today I’ll discuss Munshiganj’s potential GI products.
Patkhir
Patkhir is a popular and famous sweet delicacy. It’s sold wrapped in banana leaves. Even with modern advancements, Patkhir continues to be packaged in natural banana leaves. This sweet is exclusively produced near the Sirajdikhan market in Munshiganj district.
The ingredients for Patkhir are cow’s milk, sugar, turmeric powder, and banana leaves. Besides being eaten directly like yogurt, Patkhir is also used as a filling for patishapta pitha. This Patkhir is mentioned in the food lists of Dhaka residents during the Mughal era.
